Trainee Experience @1&1 Internet Development

Trainee Experience @1&1 Internet Development

This article is an interview of our Product Management Trainee from the RAIN Development Romania department. Brunna is from Brazil; she is working in Romania as a trainee for a period of six months. She is sharing insights into the common struggles of a traineeship abroad.

What is like being a trainee in 1&1 Internet Development?

This is a unique experience for me. First of all because the culture is totally different from mine. When I arrived in 1&1 Internet Development I was cuddled by everyone, both the HR from the company and my colleagues from RAIN project gave me all the support I needed. Brazilian people are known for being good hosts and if I have to compare them with the Romanian ones I’ll have some trouble. Also, if you’re going to visit a Romanian house, you’d better be hungry! 🙂

Who’s Afraid of… Public Speaking?

Holding a presentation seems to be a very simple thing. Until you find yourself in the situation to actually hold one. Suddently a lot of questions come to your mind. How to structure your material so that it can be easily understood? How to handle the first minutes, if your mouth is dry due to the stage fright? What to do if the public is hostile, or bored, or tired…?

These questions (and many more) constantly accompanied me in every occasion when I had to present something in front of a group. No matter the group componence (teachers, colleagues, or friends), or the topic approached, I had never found suitable answers to them.

Tips for Efficient Meetings

In this article I’ll present some of the main elements in order to have efficient meetings.

In my career I’ve listened many times to people coming from or going to a meeting, and they were quite upset. The reasons varied, but generally they were all discontent “for having wasted one hour in vain”, or used to say “I shouldn’t have been there”, “what does he want now?”, “another monologue”, “I didn’t know how to get out of there sooner”, and so on…..

I could go on with the examples, but the first idea that gets to my mind is how such situations could be avoided. What would be the golden rules to avoid them?

How we can manage the (organizational or personal) ‘change’

Have you ever felt the desire to pilot a plane? To enjoy like a child the multitude of buttons and watch through the porthole? Perhaps the boys. Maybe some of the girls, too.

Some time ago, before I started to hold courses for people in the IT industry, I used to feel like that. I was thinking that this environment should somehow resemble an advanced cockpit, where you are pulled by the ears if you press the wrong button, while if you press the wrong lever…the plane goes into a tailspin, and crash is unavoidable.

Fotbalclub 1and1 Bucharest at the Football Tournament in Karlsruhe

FotbalClub 1and1 BucharestFotbalclub 1and1 Bucharest at the Football Tournament in Karlsruhe

Before eulogizing the present let’s look a bit into the history…

In 2004, when the company was created in Bucharest (Schlund + Partner at that time) it had the chance to send a football team to the Football Tournament in Karlsruhe (held for the entire 1&1 Group as part of the Summerfest). At that time, the team was made up of anyone who could run and the results were not too good.

After the team returned, they took the wise decision of starting training. I would say this is the point our story starts. The Tuesday night football trainings from Tineretului Park last until nowadays.

After a 5 years break, this year 1&1 Bucharest had the opportunity to participate again in the Football Tournament.
