It Takes a Community to Raise a Distribution

Tim Burke began with a quotation from Dirk’s presentation, earlier that day, saying “everything went fine until the distro’s showed up”, and explained the role of a Linux distributor and the role of the community in shaping the development of its releases (both Fedora and Red Hat Enterprise Linux). By analogy with the old saying “it takes a village to raise a child” meaning that it’s not only the child’s parents who make the effort, but also everyone else around helps somehow, creating a Linux distribution is also based on the efforts of the whole community,
