Trainee Experience @1&1 Internet Development

Trainee Experience @1&1 Internet Development

This article is an interview of our Product Management Trainee from the RAIN Development Romania department. Brunna is from Brazil; she is working in Romania as a trainee for a period of six months. She is sharing insights into the common struggles of a traineeship abroad.

What is like being a trainee in 1&1 Internet Development?

This is a unique experience for me. First of all because the culture is totally different from mine. When I arrived in 1&1 Internet Development I was cuddled by everyone, both the HR from the company and my colleagues from RAIN project gave me all the support I needed. Brazilian people are known for being good hosts and if I have to compare them with the Romanian ones I’ll have some trouble. Also, if you’re going to visit a Romanian house, you’d better be hungry! 🙂

What We Are Passionate About

Some of our rare spare time we, Andrea O. and myself – two people who love reading books- spend bookcrossing. We breathe life into books instead of letting theHappy readingm collect dust in a shelf. Bookcrossing is a community of book lovers who release books “into the wild” and then follow their journeys.

People who “catch” a wild book follow the instructions on the label to go to bookcrossing.com to see where the book has been and to make a new journal entry so that other Bookcrossers know it’s in good hands. After they have read it, they release the book again on park benches, in shops, in phone booths… as long as others can find it.

Or we share our books with other members sending them around, so as many members as possible can read them.

Why are we passionate?

It is great fun to see that our books are free and bring joy to people would never have thought to get a book for free.

Look at some great examples:

–    Books in an unconventional location

–    Books read by so many people

–    Books traveling to the end of the world

But there is more to it:

How to create strong passwords

How do you create strong passwords?

Your first line of defense on the Web is creating the strongest password possible to protect your computer, your data and your online accounts. That may sound like common sense, but hackers have become increasingly sophisticated at password “cracking.”

Java User Group edition #9 at 1&1 Internet Development

JUG edition 9

JUG edition #9 @ 1&1 Internet

This is a guest post written by Eugen Stan, BJUG member.

BJUG #10 is closing in fast. In less than two weeks we meet again, and get another chance to find out new stuff about new and exciting technologies, but more important about each other. That is the reason why we, Andrei and Mihai, started JUG Bucharest almost one year ago and that is the reason why I constantly remind people to share ideas and get to know each other better.

I’m a strong believer that people drive things forward, and that technologies, frameworks and programming languages are just tools.

JUG 10 looks popular, but it still has some catching up to do before it reaches the same popularity as JUG #9, which managed to fill the 100 places conference room from the 10th floor at 1&1 Internet Development.

A new step in improving the 1&1 Mobile Experience

Knowledge is power..

Knowledge is power..

Smartphones are not just simple gadgets; they are creating a strong emotional relation with their users. They are close at hand; they are the shortest way to reach people who matter; they keep our most important memories, and they help us do our job better. As a marketer, I strongly believe that mobile applications are the type of applications that can create the highest engagement with the users. In the same time, the challenging part is how to fulfill the higher and higher expectations of the users.

The beginning

The end of this spring kept us busy. We had many ideas about how we could help our customers have a better experience on their Smartphones, and we looked for awesome people, who would make our idea happen. At the end of June we had already all the heroes of our story: Development for iOS and Android, QA, User Experience and Copywriting – or more exactly, a strong team, able to organize, innovate and adapt in a highly agile environment… all of that in our fast growing office in Bucharest.

An untold story of impediments

The untold story of impediments

The untold story of impediments

Once upon a time there was a beautiful forest. Trees were growing vigorously all around, spreading their seeds and nourishing the soil with their leaves every autumn. Birds and animals were living happy, sheltered under the canopy of branches.

Till one day when a new tree started to grow inside the forest. But that was not something new, you might say. Yet, the new tree was not a usual one – it got bigger with every day, casting a thicker shadow over its surroundings until it was clear to the entire forest that its size and appetite were extraordinary. Leaves of the trees around this greedy one started to turn pale, withering more and more. Around the big tree was growing a larger circle of emptiness, as he was spreading his branches to capture all the sun and all the rains, leaving nothing for the others.
