Tips for Efficient Meetings

In this article I’ll present some of the main elements in order to have efficient meetings.

In my career I’ve listened many times to people coming from or going to a meeting, and they were quite upset. The reasons varied, but generally they were all discontent “for having wasted one hour in vain”, or used to say “I shouldn’t have been there”, “what does he want now?”, “another monologue”, “I didn’t know how to get out of there sooner”, and so on…..

I could go on with the examples, but the first idea that gets to my mind is how such situations could be avoided. What would be the golden rules to avoid them?

Linux Filemonitor released as Free Software by 1&1

We, at 1&1, are using Free Software in almost all aspects of our work, and we are happy when we can even contribute to the Free Software community.

Linux Filemonitor is the first software to be released under GPLv2 by the Romanian Linux Development Core team.

Linux Filemonitor (or linux-filemon) is an experimental kernel patch developed by 1&1 which provides dentry-based file event notifications for the entire virtual filesystem.

Why could this be of any interest?

Because it’s the missing piece of Linux for scalable

Being Agile is a trip, not a destination

At a first glance Agile development framework seems simple, attractive and effective. Most probably that’s why a lot of software companies have embraced it as a path toward their success, but as simple as it may look, being agile is not that straight forward. Being a framework, not a standard, there is always the need to fill the empty spaces with processes and tools that fit the organization and the business goals. That’s why we invite you, dear reader, to accompany us on a journey throughout the Agile Manifesto, taking each principle that is stated in this valuable document and looking it carefully through the eyes of the Project Management Office of

Presentation Skills Club @ 1and1 Internet

Presentation Skills Club @1and1What we are trying to achieve within the Presentation Skills Club, is to remove the pressure many of us feel when preparing lengthy presentations, and focus more on enhancing the presentation skills toolbox itself.

There we are – three sessions successfully done, and eagerly looking for more :). Ethos, Logos, Pathos – we had them all, and it was absolutely great!

And so, we had Anca S. enchanting our minds when she spoke about some isolated locations deeply hidden in the Carpathians Mountains; then, we had Adrian F. doing a very interesting presentation about meetings management, and we were all ears to the very end of the presentation.

As we were gathering momentum, Laurentiu B. came with a subject that crowded the Qooxdoo meeting room: “How to take better pictures using

Leeloo’s Cupcakes in the Magic Fridge

It’s been scientifically proven that programming is a heavy calories burner. Don’t ask for evidence, browse the internet for it.
So, what’s a programmer doing when running out of calories and getting sour of so much programming?
Leeloo’s got the answer on that: cupcakes. Every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, the fridge in the kitchen at the 9th floor turns into a Magic Fridge packed with her delicious cupcakes which customers enjoy … well, they enjoy a lot. Cupcakes are available in exchange of anonymous donation in the value of 2 lei per delight, which you can drop in the Trust Candy Box nearby the Sweets Magic Fridge.
Leeloo’s proud to high sky that her work is so much appreciated by all of us and works hard to keep us sweetened – if we may say so.? Therefore, do never forget to drop your contribution in the Trust Candy Box so Leeloo keeps coming with her cupcakes and we all keep enjoying it.
Leeloo, keep up the good job!

Continuous Integration for Javascript

I have to admit that I’m not very fond (read lazy) of writing tests and, until now, I haven’t worked in a project that was fully tested. But I decided that has to change and, in an attempt to cut some of the excuses, I’ve started searching for a solution to implement CI for our Javascript environment (anyone unfamiliar with CI can read more here and here).
