It is four years since the organization together with the Foundation for a Free Information Infrastructure (FFII) has been awarding the Document Freedom Award for making the open standards available in the network. LinuxCon Europe – Day 2 (Part 2 of 4)

It Takes a Community to Raise a Distribution

Tim Burke began with a quotation from Dirk’s presentation, earlier that day, saying “everything went fine until the distro’s showed up”, and explained the role of a Linux distributor and the role of the community in shaping the development of its releases (both Fedora and Red Hat Enterprise Linux). By analogy with the old saying “it takes a village to raise a child” meaning that it’s not only the child’s parents who make the effort, but also everyone else around helps somehow, creating a Linux distribution is also based on the efforts of the whole community,

LinuxCon Europe – Day 2 (Part 1 of 4)

The second day at LinuxCon 2011 started with a heavy Continental Breakfast. Heavy as in “not for the faint of heart”, or “if you thought your cholesterol was fine, think again” or as to emphasize/enforce that “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”. Everyone sure needed their strenghts back after the “marathon” from Day 1, so packed with eggs, sausages and a slight indigestion, Day 2 at LinuxCon 2011 began.

20 Years of Linux – A Somewhat Different Retrospective

We all see Linux in its current state of development probably without realizing that it took 20 years to mature and get to this level. One person hasn’t forgotten this, as he was one of the early adopters of Linux. His name is Dirk Hohndel, and he is currently working as Chief Linux
