The New Year Brought the New 1&1 Help Center

Last December, our team celebrated (this calls for a beer! :)) the launch of the biggest update of the new Help Center, thus marking the decommissioning of the last old components in the system. In 2012 we managed to completely rewrite the help center to take advantage of the latest software technologies. This was a big project and we had a lot recruiting for our team.

Actually, we doubled our team, and I feel that we somehow rebuilt it as a whole around this project. We all grew attached to different parts of the Help Center, and we tried to make the most of what we really liked. That is why we managed to make so many improvements that reach through all aspects of the project.

The new architecture we’ve designed has increased reliability, a reduced dependency to other systems, and enhanced internationalization support.

What is it like to be a conceptual designer

Not very hard but it’s definitely not easy either…

It is really a responsibility that you cannot treat superficially and with ease of mind.

Purpose: support people with physical disabilities by selling bags

Last month brought us a little surprise from our partner in environmental issues, the “Viitor Plus” NGO.  They came and presented us their project named “Atelierul de panza”.

It all started with the idea of counter pollution of plastic bags, and soon appeared canvas bags as environmentally friendly alternative to the plastic bags, besides a little workshop was organized.

“Atelierul de Panza” is an environmental protection project, but it is also a social and professional one; it seeks to integrate, socio-professionally, people with physical disabilities, who face a difficult life and support themselves by selling bags.

Their work had great success among our colleagues. Hope we will see them soon with new ideas.

Who’s Afraid of… Public Speaking?

Holding a presentation seems to be a very simple thing. Until you find yourself in the situation to actually hold one. Suddently a lot of questions come to your mind. How to structure your material so that it can be easily understood? How to handle the first minutes, if your mouth is dry due to the stage fright? What to do if the public is hostile, or bored, or tired…?

These questions (and many more) constantly accompanied me in every occasion when I had to present something in front of a group. No matter the group componence (teachers, colleagues, or friends), or the topic approached, I had never found suitable answers to them.
